Tulum, Mexico
Hostal LUM's tropical surroundings inspired me to create these whimsical T-shirt graphics, depicting a pink jaguar lounging beneath a palm. The goal with the graphic was to be playful while maintaining a degree of sophistication and elegance. Despite not being pink in the wild, Tulum is renowned for its population of these majestic jungle cats. Little did I know before starting this project that during the construction of the new Tulum airport, there were multiple reports of jaguars attacking and, in some cases, eating construction workers.

[01] Working off a couple variations of the same jaguar motif, I put together 10 concepts to compare. Concept 10 was our winner.
[02] Getting these printed in Mexico City was an adventure. I spent a morning racing around Colonia Algarín, Mexico City’s t shirt and printing district, gathering supplies and contracting a printer to screenprint the shirts.
[03] The results were exceptional with the quality and colours coming out just as we’d hoped.
[04] Pairing with the big back graphic, the t-shirts feature a smaller front breast graphic.
[05] And inverting the black in the graphic but keeping the pink of the jaguar, I altered the graphic slightly to accommodate printing on black t-shirts.

[08] The folks over at LUM were really happy with the jaguar graphic so we decided to apply the graphic to some sticker designs too.
